Courier Service! Now one of our services

One of the most frustrating things about living in the north is the lack of locally available products and variety to choose from.  Many companies are making online shopping so easy and  online ordering has become a regular way of doing business for many people in our area .

Our shop and staff have recently committed to helping get  your orders to you.  Currently, we are set to receive small packages for local delivery on behalf of UPS and Canpar twice a week. We receive, sort and deliver to your home. If we miss you,  we will leave you a note and hold your parcels for pick up at the Northern Emporium,  210 Winnipeg St.

There’s nothing good to eat…

Have you ever heard those words? Living alone, I hear them in my head as I mentally go through possibilities when I’m hungry for “a little something.” This generally means that I’ve eaten well for the day, but there’s that one little corner of my body (probably located in my mind), that really would like a little fun food.

That being said, I have a go-to recipe that I invented when some health challenges made it hard for me to get enough calories in a day, so I needed something that was nutritious, full of anti-inflammatories, and most of all YUMMY.

So I made up a batch of what I call Nut Butter Spread, which consists of ground nuts, healthy oils, natural sweeteners with a low glycemic index, and a variety of seeds and dried fruits. It’s great with apple slices, on crackers or toast, and some of my friends just like to eat it by the spoonful.

Now I‘ve had lots of requests for this snack, so I decided to standardize the recipe and boy is that a hard thing to do!  After much head-scratching (not during the actual cooking process), I wound up with 5 versions of my nut butters, of which my favourite is what I call Adult Peanut Butter, with a chili pepper kick and super spices like turmeric, cinnamon, and ginger.  Add some sesame seeds, hemp hearts, organic toasted coconut and a few “secret” ingredients and yum!  Stop by the Northern Emporium tomorrow and check out my samples – there will be nut butters, healthy homemade bread, and even some sweet snacks.  We’ll be open from 1-4.  Hope to see you there,  and bring a corner of your tummy that needs a little something.
