There’s nothing good to eat…

Have you ever heard those words? Living alone, I hear them in my head as I mentally go through possibilities when I’m hungry for “a little something.” This generally means that I’ve eaten well for the day, but there’s that one little corner of my body (probably located in my mind), that really would like a little fun food.

That being said, I have a go-to recipe that I invented when some health challenges made it hard for me to get enough calories in a day, so I needed something that was nutritious, full of anti-inflammatories, and most of all YUMMY.

So I made up a batch of what I call Nut Butter Spread, which consists of ground nuts, healthy oils, natural sweeteners with a low glycemic index, and a variety of seeds and dried fruits. It’s great with apple slices, on crackers or toast, and some of my friends just like to eat it by the spoonful.

Now I‘ve had lots of requests for this snack, so I decided to standardize the recipe and boy is that a hard thing to do!  After much head-scratching (not during the actual cooking process), I wound up with 5 versions of my nut butters, of which my favourite is what I call Adult Peanut Butter, with a chili pepper kick and super spices like turmeric, cinnamon, and ginger.  Add some sesame seeds, hemp hearts, organic toasted coconut and a few “secret” ingredients and yum!  Stop by the Northern Emporium tomorrow and check out my samples – there will be nut butters, healthy homemade bread, and even some sweet snacks.  We’ll be open from 1-4.  Hope to see you there,  and bring a corner of your tummy that needs a little something.
